Because I stalled my car this morning, I left at the perfect time to save a life. Not even being dramatic or exaggerating, I actually saved a child's life today.
I was dropping a friend home after a day/evening out at the Spring Polo, fabulous event BTW. After a lie in and brunch it took a little while to get the show on the road and wrap up our goodbyes. We are a group of talkers, what can you do! We finally got to my car and I stalled it, which meant we left at the peak time to wittiness tragedy unfold.
As I drove through the James Street intersection along Kitchener Street (insert the busiest intersection to your knowledge) we saw the cutest toddler just strolling down the foot path parallel to the road. We quickly realised there was no adult chasing him or anyone stopping to help this little baby in a diaper from walking into on coming traffic.
"Should I stop? No one is stopping, lets stop." I screamed as I mounted my car on the gutter and we both got out at a lightning pace. As life would have it, we had just been talking about how to get optimum speed in a sprint over breakfast, these skills were put into play today. I threw my phone and keys into the ground and sprinted on the road towards the child as he was steps away from oncoming traffic that was going down James Street.
Cue dramatic underscoring and slow motion movements because that's how it felt, proper out of body experience. I bundled this lost little boy up into my arms, he didn't even cry. It felt as if there was an aerial 360 panorama shot as I stood there looking around to see if anyone was coming to help. The on coming traffic was held at a red light but it was about to change so I quickly made my way to safety.
No one was coming for help, no one jumped out of their car to save this child from on coming traffic and whats worse people probably filmed it and I wouldn't be surprised if I saw it circulating on Facebook soon.
As we caught our breath, on the footpath, it was like what do we do now, we got ourselves a baby. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Then this poor panicked mother runs out of the apartments and someone had left the gate open. I passed over her son. Bless her soul, she asked for our names, obviously monuments will be erected in our honour ;) We were pretty overwhelmed and in shock but she picked up the severity of the situation with minimal verbal communication.
If we didn't stop I'm not sure anyone else would have done anything and she would have rushed out as he approached the oncoming traffic and it might have been too late.
All the hesitations this morning lead to saving this precious child's life. I just need to have faith and trust in timing.
such a powerful mantra
I've been so hard on myself because I didn't find the funding for drama school this year, but clearly it's not meant to happen yet. I wouldn't have a had my fun blink and you'll miss it trip to London and have gone to another Greek wedding (stories to follow) or I wouldn't have been in the right place at the right time to save this little boys life.
If you're being impatient, like I can be, just remember to trust in timing because maybe, just maybe it might just save a life.
peace out
xx
Lovely post Kristy!
